Today I’m at Robinswood CC and what a place. Let me first say I apologize for not taking more pictures, as we had a pretty competitive skins game going. I’m the guest of Mark Siegel, the member and the owner of Golf Asia who I’ve made all the golf and travel arrangements with. Also in my group is a younger guy from Scotland by the name of Mike Moir who owns the Fenix apparel brand, popular in Asia, and Mike Brand, a retired finance guy from South Africa.
All these guys can play and it’s a fun group as I’m the unknown entity.
After 3 holes the gloves are off and we are all friends trying to take each other’s money.
Now this place is over the top nice and owned by 1 Chinese guy who has the distribution rights for all of China for the energy drink Red Bull. There is an unlimited budget to take care of ANYTHING that needs attention.
We manage to get off in front of a couple foursomes and we don’t see another group all day on this magnificent course. It’s only 3 years old but it looks like it has been here for a much longer period of time. Midway thru the round we get a visit from the general manager to see if anything needs his attention or if he can do anything to make our experience better. Despite those sore ribs I enjoyed a decent day of ball striking and with a little better putting could have shot even par. Once it was discovered I was an auctioneer, I had to do a little fast talking to the amusement of the group, and now I’m roped into a fundraising auction at the request of Mark to be held next February at Thai Cc. He says he just wings it every year, but would absolutely appreciate my assistance if I’d be willing…. I can’t say no to that, so I guess I’m in.
Tomorrow is my last round here, but it’s decided over beers that we will play again together at Royal Gems City, the Augusta National replica course. Should be a fun final day.
