Golf Quote: “My mother plays faster—and she’s dead.” - Anonymous:

Golf Stuff: In 2025, the LPGA introduced a revamped Pace of Play Policy to crack down on delays4:  Time Over Allotted          Penalty… +1–5 seconds – Fine… +6–15 seconds -      One-stroke penalty… +16 seconds or more - Two-stroke penalty.  Additional changes: ⏱️ No more 10-second grace for the first player to hit on par 4s and 5s (except reachable par 4s)

·        Grace still applies for par 3s, approach shots, and putts

·        🕵️‍♀️ Players are timed when their group is out of position, either behind the group ahead or over the “time par” for the hole

·        📋 Repeat violations lead to double fines the following year

The LPGA hopes these changes will make rounds more watchable and competitive. And judging by early penalties handed out this season, they’re serious about enforcement

Golf Quote: “The woods are full of long drivers.” – Harvey Penick A cheeky reminder that distance doesn’t always equal accuracy.

Golf Stuff: Why Is LPGA Play Often Slow?  Several factors contribute:  Detailed pre-shot routines: Players often take extra time visualizing shots, consulting caddies, and adjusting for wind or terrain.  Course difficulty: Tough setups with tricky greens and long roughs slow down decision-making.  Lack of enforcement: Until recently, penalties for slow play were rare, so players didn’t feel pressure to speed up.  Cultural norms: Some players were simply more methodical, and without consequences, slow habits persisted.  Even top players like Nelly Korda and Charley Hull have voiced frustration, calling for stricter enforcement to protect the sport’s entertainment value

Golf Quote: “The ardent golfer would play Mount Everest if somebody put a flagstick on top.” – Pete Dye For those who love the challenge of a long, uphill drive.

Golf Stuff: Average career span?  While it varies widely:  Top-tier players can stay eligible for 10–20+ years, especially with wins that grant multi-year exemptions.  Mid-level pros often cycle in and out every 3–5 years, depending on consistency.  Rookies and fringe players may only last 1–2 seasons before needing to requalify.  So, it’s less about a set duration and more about staying sharp. One hot season can lock in years of eligibility — but a slump can send you back to the grind. Want to explore how exemptions work or what it takes to bounce back after losing a card?

Golf Stuff: How PGA Tour eligibility works:  Players earn a PGA Tour card by finishing in the top ranks of qualifying events like the Korn Ferry Tour, Q-School, or through exemptions.  To retain full status, players must finish in the top 125 of the FedExCup standings each season.  If a player finishes outside the top 125, they may lose full status and drop into conditional categories or need to requalify.  What happens when performance dips:  Players ranked 101–125 get conditional status, meaning fewer guaranteed tournament entries.  Those ranked 126–150 or lower may rely on sponsor exemptions, past champion status, or Monday qualifiers.  Starting in 2026, only the top 100 will retain full status, making it even tougher to stay on tour

Golf Stuff: As of the 2025–26 academic year, NCAA Division I men's golf teams can offer up to 9 scholarships per team. That’s a significant increase from the previous cap of 4.5 scholarships.  Here’s how it works:  Equivalency Sport: Men’s golf is classified as an equivalency sport, meaning those 9 scholarships can be split into partial scholarships across the roster.  Roster Limit: Teams are now limited to 9 athletes, and each one is eligible for a full or partial scholarship.  Full Rides Are Rare: Because coaches often divide scholarship funds among several players, full-ride scholarships are uncommon.

Golf Stuff:  Based on estimates from former Korn Ferry Tour players… this is what it costs to play per week:  Flights: ~$500  Hotel: ~$500 (shared)  Caddy: ~$1,000  Rental car + gas: ~$400  Food: ~$300  Total per week: ~$2,700  If a player competes in 20–25 events per season, the annual cost can easily exceed $60,000–$70,000, not including coaching, equipment, or sponsorship efforts.  It’s a serious investment—but for many, it’s the price of chasing a PGA Tour dream.
