RICH PURSCHKE ... En Fuego!!!

For two sessions in a row, Rich Purschke has been on fire.  He has swept the singles ... both sessions ... and he led his team to a sweep.  And if either of the guys on his team showed up the last session, he would've swept that too!  Congratulations, Richie.  It's not often that a guy increases his quota by two points, two sessions in a row.  Eichelberger did it.   And now you!

Hall, Dunlavy and Dister.  Bupkus except for Tom getting the greenie on 14.  Curran splits first and second with Rich on the front and takes solo second on total.  His teammates, Clark and Eggert ... NADA!!  Coleman, Aholt, Kossmann and Purschke go +6, +5, +11 destroying the competition.  Aholt gets the greenie on 7.

Rich Purschke +2 to 26. Bob Coleman +1 to 33.  Mike Clark -2 to 33.  Dennis Kossmann +1 to 24.  Greg Curran +1 to 28.  Dave Dister -1 to 25.

When one hurts we all feel pain

Eight of the Oldtimers fraternity took to the course on Saturday. Although one of us limped to the finish line it did nothing to diminish the joy of fellowship we felt. We are, afterall, Oldtimers. Rich had a banner day placing first on all three legs. Greg was closest getting the second place ribbon on all three plus winning closest on 14. Greg also led Bill, Bob, n Charlie J to team victory. CJ was closest on 7.......................Rich Purschke +2 to 24. Greg Curran +2 to 27. Bill Hall -1 to 27. Bob Coleman -1 to 32. Tom Dunlavy -1 to 26. Dave Dister -1 to 26. Move over, Augusta National, Franklin County CC will lead the way

As with the touring pros, the onslaught of FCCC by the Oldtimers has revealed a glaring distance issue. This was brought to a head when Ed suggested mining the area left if #10 cartpath. After a rabid discussion Thursday a super majority agreed to require the use of a flight restricted ball in official Oldtimers play effective May 1st. Only players who have not purchased new clubs in the last 25 years(Leroy and Rich) or balls(Dave D and Rich) will be excluded from this requirement. Please stay tuned to find out the legal list of balls and how to acquire them. Thursdays play found Leroy bounce back from some really ugly golf lately to finish first across the finish line on total and front. CJ was one stroke back on total, won the back and closest on 7. Rich was closest on 14. As usual it was "The Rock", Mike, who led his team of Jimbo and Tom to team dominance..........................................Eichelberger -1 to 33. Clark -1 to 35. Dunlavy +1 to 27. Johnson +1 to 29, Purschke -1 to 22. April Fools day to the 4th power

some people spend their money on fat farms, some on meditation, and some have power retreats. No one, however, spent their money more wisely than Bob did for the four month golf school he just finished. Firing a blazing 4 under on the back for a +6 total he separated himself from everone except bad knees Mac who tied his total. Mac, however, was the better captain leading Rich, Dave, and Greg to team dominance. Greg was closest on 7, Mac on 14...........................New quotas as follows; Aholt 29 * Blackwell 31 * Clark 36 * Coleman 33 * Cozzo 27 * Crow 33 * Curran 25 * Curtis 31 * Dister 27 * Dunlavy 26 * Ecklekamp 36 * Eggert 30 * Eichelberger 34 * Fortner 30 * Gildehaus 29 * Hall 28 * Herrick 27 * Johnson 28 * Kavanaugh 27 * Kossmann 23 * Loyd 23 * Miller 23 * Mitchell 27 * Moosmann 27 * Morris 24 * Nealis 23 * Purschke 23 * Sharma 30 * Triplett 30 * Viox 27 * Voss, Chas 29 * Voss, Colby 32 * Voss, Dean 35 *

2023 Opening Quotas and Rules

KRAKOW OLDTIMERS GOLF GROUP

Our Motto

To competitively golf with friends.

Tee times:  Tuesday/Thursday at Noon.  Saturday at 11:00.  Arrive 15 minutes early for the draw.

Purse:  Each player will pay $3.50.  $3.00 for the game, $.50 for greenies.  Exact change please.

Scoring:  Stableford-based.  Double Eagle, +8.  Eagle, +5.  Birdie, +3.  Par, +2. Bogey, +1.  Double Bogey, 0.

                Triple Bogey or worse, –1.

Individual Quota:  Each player will earn a quota based on the scores recorded for his last, five rounds  Each new round will replace the oldest.

A player's score will consist of the actual scores recorded on the front, back and total, however, any score worse than –3 total will be recorded

as -3.  No player will have a 5-round-quota greater than 36 (Even Par,) or lower than 20 (87, or 16 over par.)  We will have two seasons.  The

Primary Season will be April 1st through October 31st.  The Winter Season will be November 1st through March 31st at which time quotas will

revert to what they were at the end of the Primary Season.

Playing Rules:  Each player may either play the ball up (improving lie but not position) or down as he chooses.  But, the player must ALWAYS

play the ball the same way.  Given the maintenance of the bunkers, players may rake and place the ball as they see fit.  Gimme putts can be

conceded if properly measured to insure that any part of the ball lies within 24-inches from the cup.  Players are encouraged to mark their putters

with a piece of tape that begins 24-inches from the edge of the HANDLE to the edge of the tape.  The flagsticks are marked, but using them to

measure can be awkward and destructive to the green and cup.  Of great importance, turn your score cards and money in before you put your

equipment away.  It speeds up calculation and payout at the end.

Each player will "Select his Tee Box" based on one of the two following methods: Age or Driving Distance.

Age                                                  Tee                                        Driving Distance Recommendations

49 and below                                     Blue                                        230 yards plus              6,200 – 6,400

50 to 69                                            White                                      200 yards                     5,800 – 6,000

70 to 79                                            Gold                                        175 yards                     5,200 – 5,400

80 to 89                                            Red                                         160 yards                     4,400 – 4,600

90 and up                                         Orange                                    >150 yards                    2,800 – 4,200

The primary purpose of the Oldtimers is to have everyone enjoy the competition and everyone to have the opportunity to be a champion.

We all age at different rates and whatever tees we play, we are basically competing against ourselves.  FCCC will be moving some of the tees

throughout  this year and the next.  The objective of theses new tees is to give greater enjoyment to us all … based on our own ability and based

on what our capabilities are.  Take a look at the two “Select Tee Box" methods identified above and if you wish to move based on the acceptable

criteria, contact Dave Dister and he will give you your adjusted quota. However, once you move, you must stay there.  Moving back and forth is

too confusing.

Charlie Johnson writes a blog containing your latest, up-to-date quota, plus results from the latest contests and anecdotes from the matches.

So, if you have something you’d like to share, contact him with the background and he’ll include it in his write-ups.  Thanks to Charlie, the blogs

give us even more enjoyment from our competitions.  You’ll find the blog … and, to repeat, your updated quota ... when you log in to Google or

Bing or Yahoo and type Krakowoldtimersgolfgroupblog.  Charlie will also tell you which Par 3s are greenie holes.  One on the front and one on

the back.  Changed monthly!

You won’t get rich.  You won't go broke.  You'll be an integral part of the fairest, every-stroke-you-make-counts golf competition you’ll ever play.

Cold to warm is better than warm to wet cold.

The auctioneer and the land baron ran away and hid Thursday. Tying total, each winning a side, and each getting a greenie. They swept total with Leroy n CJ expressing their gratitude with lots of "good shot boys". They were comfortably in the clubhouse munching cheese balls and drinking beer while the "second group" finished up in the spitting rain and a cold north wind......................Leroy Eggert +1 to 29. They chose poorly

Charlie V and Greg were the top of the class Tuesday winning 1st n 2nd on total plus a side. Their deadbeat partners(who shall remain nameless), however, were a combined -21. Leroy's partners Tom(second on front) n Mike were much more helpful and they swept the team game. Mike was closest on 5(but no hole-in-one). Greg benevolently split closest on 11 with loghead, who may or may not have been in the ragged edge of the fringe......................In the most volatile of seasons and on a day when only 30% of the 10 combatants posted positive scores, there were only two quota changes. Were we playing the same course as those dudes???

figure this one out. Eight golfers, six of whom were a -33 led by an ignominious -13 by Loghead. Two golfers who were +11. And since Tom's team did not include CJ his team of Mike, Leroy, and Dave A also won front, back, and total. Anyone doubting the golf prowess of the family Voss was convinced on Saturday. On a great weather day 10 oldtimers battled the course. aided by an eagle on 8 CV shot a +4 for total tieing Dean. What mighta been

Shot of the day was again on 10 but a totally different scenario. Greg was +1 for the day but it should have been so much better. After hitting what looked like a perfect drive on 10 through the cart path tree line four guys scoured 70 yards in every direction to no avail. Taking a loss of distance penalty Greg proceeded to hit 3 perfect shots to salvage a bogey. CJ was in the groove with an even par day winning front, total, leading the team of Greg n Tom(closest on 14) to a team sweep, and was closest on 3. Dave L won back and took second on total. The team of Mike, Bill, n Charlie V were a few holes ahead and obviously encountered much tougher course conditions....................Charlie Johnson +1 to 33. Mike Clark -1 to 35. The ice men cometh

Frozen ground on Saturday had the eight Oldtimers scratching their heads as balls ricocheted off the greens. But two of the Oldtimers had no problems at all. Jimbo had the shot of the day on 10 bouncing the ball off the lake to have a chip shot into the par 5. His 2 under 69 was tops for the day reference par but only good enough for second place on back n total. Distance challenged Loghead played the ice like Spitball Charlie plays a pool table and won back +6 n total with +7 along with closest on 14. Jimbo's team of Charlie V (a +2 winner on front), Bill, and Mike(closest on 3) had the last laugh winning team total by 1 point after splitting the sides.............Of the eight contestants, five quotas increased, three stayed the same. Tom Dunlavy +1 to 26. Charlie Johnson +2 to 32. Bill Hall +1 to 32. Jim Eichelberger +1 to 35. Charlie Voss +1 to 29. Thursday the second

A late start (1 PM) due to snow n ice on the greens did not deter the Oldtimers from enjoying Groundhog day on the front nine twice. After scoping in the wind and pin placements on the first nine Mike fired off a 4 under par to win the second nine, total, a sweep of team with Tom n Bill, plus closest. Bill and Charlie V were one point behind Mike and one point ahead of CJ, who won the first closest. After many rounds of stellar play Jimbo's biorhythms failed him completely and he made mention of wanting to crawl down that hole with Punxsutawney Phil....................Bill Hall +1 to 31. Tom Dunlavy +1 to 25. Mike Clark +2 to 36. Jim Eichelberger -1 to 34. Charlie Voss +1 to 28. Mack Miller -1 to 21. “It was terrible officer, he hit us with a birdie barrage.”

Another great winter day found 10 Oldtimers winding their way around the links rather inefficently with only one player plus for the day. But what a plus it was. Dean ran off birdie after birdie to shoot a 6 under 30 on the back and 68 for the day to run away and hide from the field. Jeff K won the front with a +3 and celebrated a sweep with the other Dean Team members pop and Tim. Closest were Jimbo on 3 and Mike on 14...................Dean Voss +1 to 36. Ray Sharma -1 to 28. Charlie Johnson -1 to 30. Charlie Voss -1 to 27. The Divit Board Effect

It's clear Tom will leave no stone unturned in his quest for excellence. using his newest toy, a divit board, on the driving range to hone his swing. The results were dramatic. A +11 day catapulted him to a singles and team trifecta. Of course his teammates weren't exactly milk toast. Led by Jimbo, whose sterling 69 gave him a +4, CJ +4, and Bill +3 the A team came in an obscene +22. Rich +4 n Mike +2 joined the A team in whipping up on the course. Mr Loyd was closest on 3, Mike on 14...........................Jim Eichelberger +1 to 35. Bill Hall +1 to 30/ Tom Dunlavy +2 to 24. Charlie Johnson +1 to 31. Mike Clark +1 to 34. They ain’t heavy, they’re my brothers

Inept though they were Terry and CJ could not sink the dynamic duo of Bill and Jeff K. Taking all except one second place tie they swept the singles and doubles. After two outstanding iron shots and a +3 for the day Jim had to settle for a closest on #3. Bill was closest on 14................................Jim Eichelberger +2 to 34. Jeff Kavanaugh +2 to 27. Tuesday, a banker cashes in

Those who picked Leroy n Mike in the Quinella went home rolling in the dough. By the backstretch both were +3 joined by Greg. On the final turn Tom took the lead with a +2 but at the finish line Leroy edged Mike by a neck with Mac a show. Mike won #3, Leroy #14. The favored Team Charlie had hard times. One Charlie finished last, one came up lame, and one was scratched for doping.............For the first time in recorded history, one of our players excelled to the point that he increased his quota 2 points on each of 2 consecutive rounds. Congrats to Leroy Eggert from moving +2 to 34 ... after moving +2 to 32 the last time he played. Charlie Johnson -2 to 30. Charlie Curtis -1 to 30. Bill Hall -1 to 29. Mac Miller +1 to 22. Neither sleet nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Oldtimers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds

On Saturday light sleet greeted the eight Oldtimers on their first few holes. Never fear, half of the Oldtimers ended plus for the day. Led by their fearless leader Jimbo, the foresome of Hitch (CV) and Loghead (CJ) drug their teammate Leroy, screaming and crying, across the finish line for a trifecta victory in the team game. Jimbo won total, tied back, and took second on front. Ryan E won front and CV tied back. Closest was won by Leroy and Bill which just goes to prove you can make more money by hitting one good iron shot and sponging on your partners than any other way.......................Jim Eichelberger +1 to 32. Charlie Voss +1 to 29. Charlie Johnson +1 to 31. Leroy Eggert -1 to 30. Dean Voss -1 to 35. Out with the old, ring in the new

Tuesday the 3rd brought 7 Oldtimers out in marvelous weather. Tuesday was a Charlie kind of day. No, not the imposters Johnson n Curtis, the real Charlie. Mr Voss won front, tied back with Rich, and really got in our pockets winning both closest to the holes. That is #3 and #14 for January. Rich n Charlie Curtis tied back to get what little money was left over..................Rich +1 to 23. Charlie Voss +1 to 28. Charlie Curtis -1 to 31. Mike Clark -1 to 33. Winter thaw

Seven Oldtimers teed it up Thursday on a day when most of them ran their cart air conditioners. The foresome, led by Jim (who tied front n total), Tim (who won back n tied total), Bill (who took second on back and had a smooth +3 on the day), and CJ (along for the ride) swept the team game +4, +7, +11. Josh Z tied front with Jim n Charlie V winning closest. CV's tee shot on 11, I'm told, had a very high artistic value also......................Oddly, the only player whose quota didn't change was one of the champs ... Mr. Eichelberger. Charlie Voss -2 to 27. Josh Zastrow +2 to 35. Jeff Kavanaugh -1 to 25. Charlie Johnson -1 to 30. Bill Hall +1 to 30. Tim Morris +1 to 23. Leroy’s “Free Ride”

There was a considerable amount of rust on some of the 9 Oldtimers on Tuesday but not on the Lumber Baron and Loghead. Bill took the front, CJ the back and they tied total. They also carried Leroy to a team sweep. Bob, Jim, n Mac all pocketed some money. Mike won closest on 5, Bob on 11"..........................It's great to see that nine Oldtimers hit the links with a "Bomb Cyclone" bearing down on them. Some of the scores ... not so great ... others were. With all the vagaries of the Quota Game in play, there were only two changes. Bob Coleman +1 to 33. Mike Clark -1 to 34. Winter Quotas Aholt 30 * Baer 29 * Blackwell 29 * Clark 34 * Coleman 33 * Cozzo 27 * Crow 33 * Curran 27 * Curtis 30 * Dister 27 * Dunlavy 23 * Ecklekamp 36 * Eggert 31 * Eichelberger 31 * Fortner 30 * Gildehaus 29 * Hall 29 * Herrick 28 * Johnson 31 * Kavanaugh 26 * Kossmann 25 * Loyd 22 * Miller 21 * Mitchell 27 * Moosmann 30 * Morris 22 * Nealis 23 * Purschke 22 * Sharma 29 * Triplett 30 * Viox 27 * Voss, Chas 29 * Voss, Colby 32 * Voss, Dean 36 * Zastrow 33 *

Tuesday the 6th

Eight Oldtimers discounted a dreary day with a threat of rain to have a pretty nice day on the links. The star of the show was without doubt the Lumber Baron. He won a share of all six events with a nifty +6 total and carrying the team of Dave L, Dennis, and Leroy to a near sweep of team events. Mac carded a nice +4 on back +3 total while Charlie V tied front at +3 and was also +3 total. Unfortunately, their stalwart play was not enough to carry the deadbeat loghead, who's blow up on 17 cost them dearly. CJ won closest on 5 and Mac won 11. leroy was second on both. That will teach him to get in that last group..............Dave Loyd -1 to 22. Bill Hall +2 to 29. Winter Quotas Aholt 30 * Baer 29 * Blackwell 29 * Clark 35 * Coleman 32 * Cozzo 27 * Crow 33 * Curran 27 * Curtis 30 * Dister 27 * Dunlavy 23 * Ecklekamp 36 * Eggert 31 * Eichelberger 31 * Fortner 30 * Gildehaus 29 * Hall 29 * Herrick 28 * Johnson 31 * Kavanaugh 26 * Kossmann 25 * Loyd 22 * Miller 21 * Mitchell 27 * Moosmann 30 * Morris 22 * Nealis 23 * Purschke 22 * Sharma 29 * Triplett 30 * Viox 27 * Voss, Chas 29 * Voss, Colby 32 * Voss, Dean 36 * Zastrow 33

WHO IS THIS OLDTIMER? AND WHY IS HE DRESSED ... YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN1

AND THIS IS WHY WE HAVE WINTER QUOTAS!

It's not often you see a team win the back and total with -9 and -10. But, you see it in the winter. My apologies for not being able to calculate your quotas after your Tuesday round, but the old laptop was packed for travel. Anyway, after your Thursday round, seven oldtimers have new quotas for the next battle. Charlie Voss - 29. Bill Hall - 27. Charlie Johnson - 31. Jim Eichelberger - 31. Mike Clark - 35. Mack Miller - 20. And, even though he won two legs in the last two contests, Tom Dunlavy dropped 4 to - 22.

Winter Quotas

Aholt 30 * Baer 29 * Blackwell 29 * Clark 35 * Coleman 32 * Cozzo 27 * Crow 33 * Curran 27 * Curtis 30 * Dister 27 * Dunlavy 22 * Ecklekamp 36 * Eggert 31 * Eichelberger 31 * Fortner 30 * Gildehaus 29 * Hall 27 * Herrick 28 * Johnson 31 * Kavanaugh 26 * Kossmann 25 * Loyd 23 * Miller 21 * Mitchell 27 * Moosmann 30 * Morris 22 * Nealis 23 * Purschke 22 * Sharma 29 * Triplett 30 * Viox 27 * Voss, Chas 29 * Voss, Colby 32 * Voss, Dean 36 * Zastrow 33 *

I must say, it did my heart good to see Mr. Loyd's name on the list of players.  I hope his wrist is healing and am looking forward to seeing his name frequently.
