CORRECTION...CORRECTION!!!!

It appears that I spoke prematurely that the Acting Commish did not provide the results from yesterdays play by the Old Timers Golf Group. So here we go...with the exception of DH, who was +6,+2 for +8, there were a lot of negative point totals yesterday. DA and RP WITH +2 AND +3 on the front led their team to complete victory with +4,-9 and -5.  When was the last time a team won a side at -9??? Oh well..greenies were evenly spread out. #3 DH, #5 DA, #7 CJ, #11 BC and #14 BH.

Don't forget that next Tuesday is a late start..

Updated Point Totals

Acting Commish DD did not report the results from yesterday. I saw a rare occurrence yesterday as I was going to the 8th tee. DD's tee shot on 15 somehow ended up in the right rough??

Rich and Charlies is baaaack!

It was a blast from the past today at FCCC..Rich and Charlies returned to the Washington area for a few hours. The team of RP and the three Charlie's swept the singles and took two of the three team games. Led by CV +4,+2,+6, and RP +1,+5,+6. If it wasn't for the -4 performance by CC on the back.....it would have been a complete sweep. It's not like the team of BC, BH, DD, AND DA were slouches today....+3,+8,+11, but Rich and Charlies led by the phenomenal one putting of CJ was too much too handle. CJ hit 5 greens today and shot 76!!
Greenies were as follows...
BC 3 and 5
DA 7
RP 11
the King 14

See you all on the flip side.

Beautiful Day Yesterday

It was a beautiful day yesterday for the Old Timers...the greens are finally recovering from aeration and we were off the cart paths. The only thing that could have made it better would have been free beer in the clubhouse!! Welcome back Herb from your winter hiatus. The final group won 4 of the 5 greenies...as it should be. CC-2, DH-1, DA-1 and RP with the final greenie. CJ won the front with +4. CC won the back with +6, and MM won total with +3 & +4 for a total of +7. The team of DD, CJ, TM, and MM won the front and total. CC, BC, DH, and DA won the back with a solid +8 performance.

Greetings from Northern Wisconsin

Well yesterday was 33 degrees and windy...almost 30 below the normal high. Enough about me.
8 of you Old Timers showed up yesterday for battle. JE-2,CJ-2, and BC-1 for the greenie count.
CJ won the front, DH winner of the back and total. The team of DD,JE,DG & CJ won the front. The team of BC, BH (Who appears to be in a slump), CV, & DA won the back and total. it looks like everyone got back at least some of their entry fee.
Here's hoping to warmer weather and some biscuits in the basket up north.

Thursday, May 9, 2019

Another Thursday means another day on the links.

Driving in heavy rain to our final destination up north. We spent the night in Madison, WI. Dinner at the Old Fashioned...as of last count they have served over 539,000 of them. In addition, my gentleman friend (so says our really young waitress), had a famous Wisconsin Bomb, which is a pickled egg floating in a Pabst Blue Ribbon.. After dinner we headed over to Smokey's supper club for a mile high Brandy Alexander. Fun times in the capital of Wisconsin. Remember...measure your putts today!!!

Updated point totals

The only movement was Aholt losing 1 to 27 and Coleman losing 1 to 30.  Aholt shot his quota today but dropped a 34. Coleman only has 11 scores and his 28 today dropped him even though he moved up to white/gold tees. Lots of others are within a tenth of a point of either going up or going down 1.

Update provided by acting commish...DD

Tuesday, May 7, 2019

Finally...we were able to finish 18 holes today!

9 of the Old Timers were able to enjoy a beautiful 18 holes today. Better yet, we were off the cart paths. The greens are finally growing in after aeration a month ago. Scores were decent today, as Rich won the front after a slow start with +4. The acting commish..Dave D and perpetual Captain.. Charlie J, won the back at +3. As you might expect all three tied for total at +4. The team of RP, BH, and CC..won the front with +7. How could they not win total with such a hot start? As we all know..golf is not easy. TM, DD, and CJ won the back with +6, and total with +6. Greenies today...BH #3, RP #5, CJ#7, CV#11, and DD#14. I think that I speak for everyone..Thanks for coming...BC, CV, and DA. See you when I see you again. Good luck to CV and his bride as they travel to Philadelphia, MS to play at Dancing Rabbit.

Victorius Day for Trio of the Old Timers Golf Group!!!!

Captain Charlie Johnson, Dave Aholt, Charlie Curtis and projects neighbor Rick Bouse, won the Missouri Historical Society Tournament today with a feisty score of 55. Yes, for those of you counting on your fingers and toes. that is 16 under par. While I am not a fan of Wolf Hollow, the course was in very nice shape, with really nice speed on the greens. Without the excellent leadership of our self designated captain, we would not have been able to pull this victory out. FYI..the three of us might be looking for a new captain for next year. Please don't tell him that I said that.
See you all tomorrow at FCCC.

Krakow Old Timers

The Rules

Our beloved commissioner cut his trip to the Caribbean short to attend our winter meeting.  Decisions were made on the few rules we have.

1. Your quota is based on the following:

a.  If you are a new member, subtract your GHIN index from 36.  Round up if it's .5 or                                                                     higher.  For example; 36 (quota points for an even par round)

                                      -12.5 (your index)

=23.5 (round up) your quota is 24 for the first round you play.

Let's say you shoot an 80 that day.  80 is nine over par, so you would have had 27 points or plus 3 for the day.  The next time you play, your quota would be 24 (your entry quota) + 27 (actual quota of first round) = 51¸2 = 25.5 (round up) 26.  The average of your daily quotas would continue to be calculated in this way until you reach 20 rounds. At that point, we eliminate the first round on the list and replace it with your most current round.  That continues on for as long as you play from those tees.

2. When you reach the age of 70, you may choose to move from the white tees to the gold tees.  You don't have to do this, but you are completely eligible to do so if you wish.  One exception, you can't play the gold tees on the par 3s until you are 75 years old.

    a.  If you choose to make the move, it will be a permanent decision on your part.  You can't play the white tees one day and the gold tees the next.  You must stay on the gold tees.

     b. When you make that move, 2 points will be added to your quota.  If your quota was 20 from the whites, your new quota will be 22 from the golds. You will be given a grace period of 4 rounds to establish your quota from the gold tees with your gold tee scores included in the divisor. 2 points added to 19 scores plus gold tee scores and so on until you complete your fourth round.  At that time, the previous 16 scores will be eliminated and your quota will be entirely based on the scores you shoot from the new set of tees.

     c.  When you reach 80 years old, you may move to the red tees.

     d.  When you reach 85 years old, you may move to the family tees.

3. It is entirely your decision how you choose to play.  You can bump the ball.  You can play the ball down.  Whichever way you choose to play, you must be consistent.  You can't play it up one day and down on the next.  Your quota would not reflect a consistent style of play and therefore, would be unfair to the field.

4. Any part of the ball inside the leather is a gimme.  Or, you can use the tape mark on the flag stick. Everything else must be putted.

5. Eagles are worth 5 points, birdies 3, pars 2, bogies 1, Double Bogies 0, Triple Bogey or worse -1.

6. Prize fund is a maximum of $4.25 per session.  25-cents per greenie hit = $1.25

                                                                                25-cents Nassau singles =     .75

                                                                                    75-cents Nassau team =  2.25

    a. Change not provided.  Bring quarters.

7.  If somebody wants to coordinate a voluntary skins component, have at it.

That's basically it.  The Commissioner is looking forward to returning to the fray as soon as his move is complete.  He felt this clarification was necessary because we have so many members who are at … or about to be at ... the age of 70.  It ain’t a lot of money, but we want to be consistent and fair to the field.
