Old Timer's Battle A Rough Back Nine

Several greens on the back nine made havoc with putting, as there has been considerable degradation of the putting surfaces from Tuesday to yesterday. Here's hoping that the aeration, rain and cooler temps brings them a speedy recovery. As with Tuesday's play, everyone won at least something yesterday. Dave D, Jim, Dennis H, and Terry won the front +3, and total -3. Dave D, and Jim split the front with +2. Charlie V led his team to a victory on the back with the only positive score +2, winning the back and total +3. His thankful teammates were Bob, Bill, and Charlie C.

Hall -1 to 28.  Coleman +1 to 34.

Tuesday Old Timer's Results

Before I begin, Congratulations to Sharon and Dean as they competed in the Century Division at Porto Cima and brought home a second place finish!
Everybody gets their name mentioned today...Dave D, Dennis H, Bill H, and Terry win the front +2. Dave and Terry tie the front at +3. Bob, Mike C, Charlie V and C win the back and total +4, +5. Charlie V, and Mike C tie the back, +2. Dave D and Charlie V tie total with +3. Let's hope for cooler temps for the next 10 days...lower days and lower nights to allow our suffering greens to heal.

Ah, the vagaries of the quota system.  Coleman drops a 38 and adds a 35, but his quota still drops 1 to 33.  Clark drops a 28 and adds a 33, but his quota goes up to 35.

Thursday Old Timer's..... Plus Ray

As I was growing up, I often heard from other adults...Sometimes it is better to be seen than heard...Yesterday youngster Ray shot the best rest round of his young life and drug his teammates Charlie V, and Dennis K accross the finish line. Ray was +6, +3, +9 to win the front and back. His team won the front, tied the back with Dave D, Bill, and Terry; and won total. Bill wins the back with a nice +4.

On another personal note I want to congratulate my lovely wife for surviving the last fifty years of marriage to yours truly. It has certainly been one hell of a ride. Tomorrow we start the journey on the next fifty.

Quota updates...

Hall +1 to 29.  Sharma +1 to 31.

New Quotas

Before I display the new quotas..it was pointed out to me that I left out the end of the story after I yelled "bite" yesterday to one of my teammates putt....It resulted in a four putt...yikes!..that also resulted in said person losing the back and total. Shit Happens....

Clark +1 to 34.  C. Voss +1 to 29.  Curtis -1 to 31.  Harrison -1 to 24.

SENSITIVITY

Today was an unusual day for at least one of our two foursomes.....Although we didn't utter the word sensitivity or lack of...it was popular in our thru the green conversations. From describing our team results on the first hole..."that was three pars and Charlie"...to talking to a teammates ball as it is rolling towards the hole..calling out bite...when it actually stops three feet short of the hole. 19 years ago during my first tournament of the Emerald Coast Senior Scratch Series..on the first green I encouraged a fellow playing partners putt to break as it neared the hole...much to my dismay it broke out of the cup. It was then that I learned the phrase..."If it doesn't come out of your bag don't talk to it!!" Sensitivity is the word that comes to my mind during a time like that. Should I have been more sensitive to a persons feelings that I just 10 minutes ago met?? Or should he realized that as a rookie I was a little nervous and to cut me some slack?? Before I go any further we all know that golf balls are female by nature...they never have and never will listen to encouragement from a man!! Our conversations were all over the place today...and with the exception of Terry, we came up with buptkis in the $$$ column...it was an enjoyable day. Especially for someone who just got out of 14 days of quarantine. Now on to todays results...
Mike C led his team (bob, bill, charlie v)to a complete sweep with +5, +4, +9. He also won the back and total +4, +6. A nice little 69 today Mike! It must have been the Phil buttondown shirt you wore today. There I go again....lacking a little sensitivity. BTW Terry won the front with +3.
See you all Thursday. And if you are counting it was 4 VO's tonight!!

GIMMIE..GIMMIE..GIMMEE..SOME LOV'IN

Okay, now that I have your undivided attention, it's time to discuss a topic close to your average Old Timers heart..(yeah I know not all of us have hearts!!) "The Gimmie Putt". Not to be confused with the widely popular "Purschke", which admit it we have all at one time or another benefitted from one. Starting next Tuesday, everyone will be asked to place a circle of tape "24 from the grip end of your putter on the shaft. Any ball that touches the tape is considered to be good and need not be putted. The Old Timers have always had the tradition of putting everything that wasn't inside the leather or tape on the flagstick. As time has passed we have strayed from that simple premise of measuring all potential "Gimmee's". Eyeballing is not considered a satisfactory method of measuring your putt. Please discuss any questions next week with the Acting Commish that you may have. If you need help bending down to measure your putt...I'm sure one of your teammates will offer assistance. See you all next week.
Gimme All Your Lovin Boys!!

Saturday Old Timer Results

Before I get into yesterdays play, some clarification is needed regarding those playing early to avoid the heat. After much discussion, it has been decided that in order to be included in the daily game, players need to play at the regularly scheduled times of noon on Tuesday and Thursday, and 11:00 on Saturday. As  a result, Thursday has been deemed a practice round and scores will not be counted.

Now on to yesterday's action. 11 Old Timers battled the heat, and relatively slow and soft greens. The Acting Commish pushed fellow teammates Mike C, Ryan C, and yours truly to a solid +8 to win the front, +3 on the back and +11 for a winning total. The back was won at +4 by Leroy, Jeff K, Dennis and Terry. Yours truly wins the front with +4 (33), Bob C wins the back and total with +4 (33), +4.

Dister +1 to 29.  Hall -1 to 28.  Moosmann +1 to 28.  Clark +1 to 33.

Tuesday Brings a Reality Check to the Old Timers

Prior to starting our round yesterday, we learned that one of the old timers had just received positive results from a covid test and would be in quarantine for the next two weeks. Based on close proximity over the weekend two other old timers  are going to be tested. The best to everyone involved.
Golf yesterday was hot and very snail like as we followed a MAGA four-ball tournament being played at FCCC. 4:45 on a hot humid day was not a lot of fun. But Old Timer charlie j, blazed his way around the course to lead his team to victory. Capturing individual honors with +4, +3, +7. DaveD and A, along with terry tied the front with +4, while Charlie j and c, with bob and bill won the back and total.
Stay safe and wash your hands with soap!!

The Youngsters Have No Pity on the Old Timer's

13 Old Timer's turned out for battle yesterday, and it was Deja Vu for General Custer. He didn't see what was coming back then, and neither did the elder Old Timer's. The team of Ray S, Jeff K, and Terry M swept the team game with nice totals of +4, +7, +11. Ray who on a side note lost his chance to be sportsman of the year yesterday for his vicious tweet regarding none other than our own Leroy Eggert. Ray had a very solid day yesterday winning the front and total, +5, +7. He was also observed eating a Better Mac and fries after the round as a "snack" for his soon to be eaten Dinner at home. Remember that we are starting form zero our $$$$$$ wins and losses. If you haven't paid yet for the previous 3 months, please do so. Thank you in advance.
