Mike Clark in Thailand: Chapter 10

Subhapruek Golf Club…. Say that 5 times fast perfectly and you have a possible bright future in the auction business.

Let me start this out by saying that a close up view of the genitalia of Michelangelo‘s David is not inherently inspiring before golf. I’m not sure what the idea is… but you can’t get past it to tee off without and eye to sausage encounter.

My caddie today is “Ann”, which is no doubt a made up name to keep things simple. She’s a bouncy pleasant 18 years of age and has worked here three months. Ann’s knowledge of golf is that you keep hitting the white ball until it goes into the cup, or her frustrated player of the day just throws in the towel gives up.

Now this is a lovely well maintained golf course and a great design that is demanding off the tee. It’s flat and perfect for walking which I dearly love. We should be walkjng….The problem is, I’m in a cart and they are restricted to the path…. So every hole we are making the back and forth trek to the ball.

Ann is hooked up to the translator ear piece and is chattering away, but has the attention span of a field mouse and none of it is golf related. She just guesses at the distance, which is fine, but if only there was a device that could tell you the exact distance …. Yes there is such a thing called a rangefinder, but it’s left in the cart…. Over and over again. Ann is super sweet, but she’s got no real golf experience other than caddying for folks that might struggle a bit and she just needs to learn.

Today I notched it up as just a day to relax, which I did. We played unrushed golf and made a few bogeys, a lot of pars and only 1 birdie. Tomorrow I’m packing up and rolling out of Bangkok to the resort town of Hua Hin. Before I arrive I’ll be playing Nikanti which is a real test and treat! Should be fun !

Gotta get past this before you can get out the door to your cart

Once you get past the "David Encounter", the course is lovely.

This course has a range, but you just pound the balls into the lake at floating targets.

Supposed to rub the man junk for a good round.

I’d risk 5 three putts and 4 OBs before I’d let that happen
