Thursdays Old Timers Results

Todays post will start off with the naming of the Old Timer of the Week. Once again after shooting the low round of his life (67), the King (BH) snares this award. With scores of +5, E, +5; and +6, +5, +11 and two greenies it was a no brainer.

On to yesterdays results. BH won individual honors for the front and total. LI tied BH on the back.
The team of DD +4, +1, +5, CJ +1, +2, +3, and LE +1, +2, +3 swept the ream game. LI had a terrific day as well, +5, +5, +10. On any normal day this would have been a huge winner. But, when the King shoots the round of his life...…..

Greenies are as follows: #3 and #11 LE, #5 and #7 BH, #14 CJ.

Charlie Bartlett is another new member.  He started with a quota of 30 and got 28 points.

Bill Hall shot 67 for lowest round of his life and 40 points.

Where was Everybody yesterday?

Only 5 Old Timers showed up to battle it out yesterday. Once again, Team Charlie with a major assist from the King (BH) swept both team and individual matches. BH +5, +5 won the front and total. CJ +1 won the back.
Greenies as follows...
#3 CV, #5 DD, #11 CJ, and #14 DA.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to do a course rating at Forest Park. Surprisingly, the course was in very good condition, without the usual large number of ballmarks on the greens that I've experienced in the past. FYI, green speeds were around 9. Kudos to them on the improved conditions since my last visit several years ago.

My Golf Spy Ball Study

Below is a current golf ball study completed by my golf spy. it is worth reading.

Hi ,

This is the most impactful test we have ever published.
Over the past 10 years, MyGolfSpy has conducted hundreds of tests,
and published thousands of articles that have influenced millions of golfers,
but no test has the potential to impact golfers and the industry more than this one.

We’re not sure exactly when it happened, but at some point, marketing the golf ball
became more important than the actual performance of the products themselves.

Today, for the golf ball, that changes.

Today we get to what’s real and true, and what will ultimately help golfers make
smarter decisions about the golf balls they play.

Thursday's Old Timer Results

The Acting Commish once again provides the play by play for yesterdays action.

9 players: Loyd out after 1 hole ... knee injury.
Greenies: 3 - Ryan Crow, 5 - TM, 7 - TM, 11 - CV, 14 - TM
Individual:  Front, back and `18 were split by Jim Eichelberger and Dennis Harrison ... +2, +3, +5.
Team: Luther, DH and DD split front with JE, DA and TM.  Luther, DH, DD win back and 18 +5 +8.
DH, JE go up 1. Ryan Crow starts with 31 and is now 28.  Beautiful day ... rough is too long (hard to find balls), greens are too slow (some of them look suspiciously close to death.) Scoring for most was moderate to poor.

Due to the lack of individual scoring information available while I was out of pocket...there will be no Old Timer of the Week awarded for this week.

Tuesday, July 23, 2019

Reporting in from St. Simons Island, GA...home to DL III and others.

Thanks to the Acting Commish for providing todays play by play. Seems like BC is tired of finishing second in the Old Timer of the week award.....

Here's what happened.  10 players.

Coleman gets greenies on: 3, 5, 11, 14.  Dister gets greenie on 7 as he was the only one who hit the green.

Our new member, Steve Homeyer (sdhomeyer@att.net) wins the front and splits the 18 with Coleman.  Coleman wins the back.

Team of Red Hot Rich Purschke, Marquart, Homeyer and Dister win front and 18.  Coleman, Voss and Edmonston win back.

Coleman has been on fire shooting a 4-under 67 today.  Hall's bubble finally burst chalking up a -6.

Old Timers are not Wilting in this Heat

As the heat and humidity continues, so does the hot play of several Old Timers. Nine of us showed up yesterday to do battle and eight Old Timers turned in positive results. Sixteen positive scores have been turned in this week!! The team of DD, DH, and CC won the front with +11, and tied for total with +12. Team BC, RP, and BH (last weeks Old Timer of the week) won the back +6, and also tied for total at +12. Individual winners were DH with +5 on the front, RP +4 the back, and DH again winning total with  +7.
Greenies today were:
#3BC, #5 DD, #7 NO ONE!, #11 DH, and #14 BH.

Again, choosing the Old Timer of the Week was a tough decision. CC was +8 for the week, and  RP +9. But the winner again this week is the King, BH with back to back +6's and a greenie. Nicely done this week to everyone who battled the heat and humidity

If the blogger doesn't have your email address, please send it to him at

Scoring SNAFU Taints Sweep by team Rich Today

A major SNAFU by CC today claiming that team Rich swept all three team bets after the delirious team of RP, DL, TM and shamefully CC collected their winnings, found out that a serious math error occurred. As it turned out, team Dave D won the back and there was no sweep by team Rich. As a result CC has been dealt a 30 penalty for scoring after the round has been completed. CC's only comment was that he needed to talk to his representative about the severe penalty handed down.

Enough about all that...DL won the front with +4, last weeks Old Timer of the week BH, won the back +5, and total +6. At this early point in the race to be Old Timer of the year, BH has a solid hold on the lead. Hopefully, he will still be....

Greenies today. #3CC, #5DL, #7BC, #11 and #14 CJ. It is important to note that 4 of todays greenies were won by residents of the nearby Projects.

The Old Timers and the Heat are burning up the Course

Today was another warm one, but that didn't stop the old timers from playing some really good golf. BC shot a smooth 68, and teammate BH came in with a 72. But the team of DD, DL, RP, and CV were +4, +8 and +12 for the day to win the back and total. BC, BH, LJ?, and CJ won the front with +5. BC and BH tied both the front, +5 and total with +7. KE won the back with +4. Some damn good golfing of the ball today.
Greenies #3, BC, #5, CV, #7, KE, #11, BH and #14 MM(no D).
Now for the player of the week....RP, DD, DL and CC all had positive totals, BC who was a close second last week, is once again in that kissing your sister position. Our second Old Timer of the Week is Bill (the King) Hall. With a weekly total of +9 and two greenies he leads the field this week.
Keep golfing that ball!!

Greenies are as follows:
#3 CC,  #5 DD,  #7 BH, #11 CC, #14 CJ

A Great Weeks Performance To Celebrate our 1st Old Timer of the Week!!

As previously announced, the Old Timers Golf Group will be recognizing outstanding weekly performances by members of the group. Last week there was no one that exhibited the characteristics that cries out "wow!...that was some good golfing of the golf ball. But this week...there were two rounds of golf that will certainly set the gold standard of what "Old Timer of the Week" truly means. It will be a challenge going forward to match the accomplishments of one Rich Perschke this week. Some of the reasons that RP is this weeks and the first winner of this soon to be coveted award are as follows:
+19 for the week
1 Greenie
Winner of 2 backs and one total.
His team swept all bets both days!
RP shot his age today!!!
Congratulations to Rich for his worthy performance this week.

Back to the mundane results for today...
Greenies
BC wins #3, #5, #7 with supposedly gimme putts.
RP #11
DA #14

CC with +5 wins the front.
RP with +10 and +14 wins total.

As mentioned earlier team RP, DD, and DL win the team game.

Under normal circumstances BC with +12 for the week, 3 Greenies today, and a victory on one individual could have easily been bestowed this award...but we all know that golf is really hard and to always expect the unexpected.

See you all next week.

The hot weather and storms don't slow down this bunch of Old Timers!!!

Scoring today was excellent given the heat and storms. BC ties MM on the front and wins total. RP turned it on and won the back. The team of DA, BH, and RP sweep front, back and total...+8, +9, +17. Some solid golf from those Old Timers. Greenies...#3 BH, #5 DA, #7 CJ, #11 CJ, and the ex-acting commish DD wins #14. Glad to have you back DL! We have missed you.
See you all tomorrow.

Summer has finally arrived....argh!!

Another small showing as only 6 Old Timers took to the links yesterday. BC appears to be the big winner of the day. With 3 greenies, winning the front, his team consisting of BC, KE, and DD won front and total, it was a very good day for BC! RP comes in a close 2nd as he wins the back and total, and his team RP, DH, and JS won the back. DD and KE each win one greenie.

Your golf tip of the day is nothing new...just saw again on the morning drive from Golftec...the optimum driver for amateurs is 44 1/2" with additional weight added to the head to compensate for the change in swingweight. This can create 20% higher MOI...which means more consistency off of the tee. See your local clubfitter to see if these changes will help your game.

Due to the small turn out this week, the first winner of the Old Timer of the Week Award will be postponed. Not that there wasn't notable performances, but when we look back in many years..i'm not wanting people to say "how did that guy win this prestigious award?"

Rich goes up 1 to 22.  The rest stay the same.

Small group today, but fun was had by all.

On a beautiful summer day, only 6 of the Old Timers showed up to play. I should correct that to say that 3 of the 6 showed up to play. Not sure what the last group was doing today. Greenies are as follows....#3DD, #5DH, #7CC, #11 &14 HL. At least somebody on that team won something today. CC with +2 wins the front, DD with +5 (35) & +6 wins the back and total. DD,DH,CC win front back and total.
Because next week is the 4th of July, the Old Timers Golf Group will play Tuesday and Wednesday.
Krakow Charlie (author of this fine blog) has determined that there should be some recognition for outstanding performances for the participants in the bi-weekly Old Timers Golf Group. Each week one of you will be named "Old Timer of the Week". The decision will be based soley on the individual opinion of the blog writer. Winning will not be based on scoring alone, all though scores from both days of the week will weigh heavily in determining the weekly winner. Compliments to the blog writer, and unexpected bottles of beer will help your individual chances of winning this award. I'm thinking that there might also be an annual award that comes with a parking space, to the individual that wins the most weekly awards.
See you all when I see you.

Just when you think you've done it all....

Today, along with my lovely wife and daughter and 14 of my new, never to see again friends..spent 3 hours taking a walking food/drink tour of the Ecclectic food scene in Asheville, NC. "Craft cocktails" should be renamed "Crappy Cocktails" and just because its green and grows in the ground, doesn't mean that I should be served it to eat.  Enough of my day... Several of you Old Timer's attempted to tame FCCC. Only three greenies today..DA #3, CJ #11, and BC #14.
The King and CJ, shot +2, +2, +4 to tie all thr4ee individual games. BH, RP, and DD win front, back, and total with +2, +3 and +5.
Tomorrow i'm playing another Donald Ross course and will be back in town for next Tuesdays match.
Everyone have a great weekend!

DA drops to 28, and KE drops to 24.

Live Reporting From Black Mountain, NC and Updated Point Totals

It's interesting to me that I can go places and not have cell service. As I sit here high atop Black Mountain with internet from AT &T, but no cell service from them. So I am limited in reporting what happened Tuesday with the Old Timers.

The first picture is from the 15th hole at CC of Asheville overlooking downtown. The last is an old walking bridge on the 18th hole. The middle is the view from our cabin in Black Mountain.

The following is provided by the Acting Commish...
There were only 6 players in the game,  BC shot a 69 for 38 points, so I'm assuming he was big individual winner ... and most likely propelled his team to victory.  Don't know greenies.  BC goes up to 32.  RP dropped a 12 and added a 24 ... he goes up to 21.  See you at 12:10 Thursday.

FREE BEER TUESDAY AFTER GOLF!!!

A rumor is running rampant in the streets of the Projects!! One of our very own Old Timers seems to have won a butt load of cash Friday night at FCCC. It is also rumored that a few free beers can be had by all Old Timers after Tuesdays round of golf. We will see...we will see.

A new King rides into FCCC

13 of you old timers showed up yesterday to try your luck and skill on another spring like day. Team King and KE walked away with almost all of the entry fees. Team CJ (CJ,BH, LE) won the front with a weak -1!! Team King (DD, DH AND KE) took control and won the back and total..+7 and +4. HL won the front with +4. KW wins the back +5, and CJ wins total with +5.
Greenies are as follows: #3 DH, #5 CC, #7 DH, #11 KE  and #14 LE. Members of Team King win 3 of the 5 greenies. As I've read in History books, it's good to be the "King"!!

Lots of movement.  The following go up:  CV, DA, KE.  These go down:  CC, BC, RP.  Dennis, Bob Coleman has your $13 and will pay you Saturday.

Another good scoring day for the Old Timers

a really good turn out yesterday for the Old Timers golf group. absolutely beautiful weather and nice playing conditions contributed to some good golfing of the ball. DA and CC tied with +3 on the front. DD turned around a -4 on the front with a strong +5 to win the back. DA won total with +7 (72 for the day). Team Rich, consisting of CC,BH,KE, and RP.....won the front +6, and total +12. Solid golf was played by Team Rich. Team Herbie, DD,BC,TM, and HL...won the back with +8 led by DD +5 and BC +3.
Greenies were...#3 TM, #5 DA, #7 CC, #11 BH, and #14 CC.

It's amazing what can change in two days

Tuesday was a scoring bonanza and yesterday was just a bunch of Old Timer's smacking the ball around. DA won the front with +2, CJ won the back with +2, and they tied the back at +2. Tuesday they would have heard thanks for coming today!! DD,DA,DA and the King win front, back and total with +5,-5 and even.)
The highlight of the day was CJ (fellow resident of the Projects) a guy who misses more greens than anyone I've ever seen , wins 4 greenies on the day!! The king won the last.
On a side note the two guys I scored for today finished 3rd and t-6. Excellent golf and lots of fun to see close up.

Updated point totals from the Acting Commish

Today I had the opportunity to do some scoring for the Metropolitan Open being held at St Albans. The Lewis and Clark course is in beautiful condition and as of now the leading score is -6 (lots of flat bellies playing from the tips). Ryan E +3 with two doubles, and Matt Hoemann +2. A decent showing from FCCC golfers. Friday I will be a walking scorer for one of the last groups of players. Wish me luck in the hacking and coughing categories.
And now for the updated point totals.....

Was that some good ball golfing or what?

Yesterday saw some really really good scoring. 7 of the 9 Old Timers came into the clubhouse with positive point totals. Somehow BC and CC didn't get the memo on scoring well.
Instead of just mentioning the individual winners, I will be listing everyones point totals to recognize todays efforts.
DD -  +2 = +2
RP +5 +4 = +9  Winner of the front only ???
DA -1 +3 = +2
+4, +9, =+13 Winner of team back nine
Chelsea Lynn Pezzola
DH +4 +7 =+11 Winner of the back 9 and total
CV +2 +2 =+4
BC +1 -1 = E
+7, +8 = +15 Winner of the front and total

CC +2 -3 = -1
BH +4 E = +4
CJ -1 +5 = +4 (A smooth little 35 means nothing in this game)

Now is the time to talk about Greenies....If your first name is Charlie..please step up to the podium to receive your $$$..not so fast CV.
#3 CC, #5 CJ, #7 CJ #11 CC, and #14 CC

Nicely done today fellow Old Timers
