Saturday Old Timers action

Once again the Acting Commish ha summoned his inner blogger talents to relive today's play. As I played earlier today, I feel that I must add to his diatribe...look it up...it's a real word.
The recent rains we have had has been a boon to the ability of our rough to far exceed US Open conditions. Let's face it
Old Timer's..how often could we surpass the conditions at the Holy Grail of golf tournaments??
Just my opinion!!!

Ok..back to to wit and wisdom of the acting commish.....

The Re-emergence of Bill Hall

On a spectacularly beautiful Saturday, 7 Oldtimers attacked a wet and Healthy (to quote the blogger) golf course.  The team of Bill Hall, Terry Moosman, Leroy Eggert and Dave Dister prevailed on the front, back and total over the team of Dennis Harrison, Bob Coleman and Ray Sharma.

Terry Moosaman led Team Hall with a tasty +2 on the front to take individual honors.  And when Moosman threw a shoe on the back, Hall took the reins with and almost unbelievable +4 and led his team kicking and screaming across the finish line.

TM wins the front, BH wins back and total.

BH    -1  +4  +3
TM   +2  -1  +1
LE     -3  -2   -5
DD   +1  -1    0  Team  =  -1  0  -1

DH     0  +1  +1
RS     -4  -2   -6
BC    +1  -4   -3  Team =  -3  -5  -8

BH +1 to 27, RS -1 to 28 and with one on the vagaries of the quota game, LE drops a 26 and adds a 27 which raises him +1 to 31.

Tuesday Results

The acting commish once again has done my job for me.....

Purschke Sets New Oldtimers Scoring Record

Rich Purschke shoots a double-bogey-free 76 in extremely difficult conditions to go +5, +6, +11 and lead his team to a sweep in Tuesday's 9-player match.

RP +5  +6  +11
JK +3    -3     0
CV  0   +2   +2 Team = +8  +5  +13

BC    0    0     0

BH   0   -1    -1

DD  -1   -3   -4 Team = -2  -3  -5

As a reminder, if you're not sure of your quota, check the blog.  The Blogger posts updates after every session.  The RP team had a mistake.  It didn't affect the match, but it could've.

RP +1 to 21.  BC +1 to 36.  JK -1 to 27. MC +1 to 31.

Saturday Old Timers Action

The Acting Commish is quite the scribe when he has his positive attitude vibe flowing...Please read on...

On this beautiful Saturday, seven oldtimers faced a course that was a challenge in almost every respect.  The winds were a'blowin' ... the greens were like trampolines ... the fairways were soft as pancakes ... and (as the 'blogger' would say with his new, positive attitude) the rough was 'healthy' and lush.  Believe you me, there's absolutely no danger of the rough dying because it's been cut too short.

The three man team of Voss, Moosman and Harrison prevailed front, back and total over the team of Coleman, Hall, Sharma and Dister:

DH  +2  0  +2
CV  -1  +1  0
TM  -3  -1  -4  for team totals of -2  0  -2

BC  0  -4  -4
BH -2  +1  -1
RS  -1  -6  -7
DD  0  -1  -1  for team totals of -3 -10  -13

Individually, the front 9 and 18 was taken by DH  +2  +2
The back 9 was tied by CV and BH +1

Ray Sharma drops 1 to 29 and Bob Coleman drops 1 to 35.

AHHH...Isn't the grass healthy??

Yesterday saw the 13 Old Timers coming back to normal. Only 3 of us managed to have positive totals for the day. We are continuing to see quite a few players showing up to play. For those of you who we haven't seen in a while..hurry back.
Bill, Terry, Jeff K, and Charlie J won the front with a nice +5.  Dave D, Dennis, and Charlie C managed to hold it together and won the back and total...+1, -1.
Dave A and Charlie J tied the front with nice +3's. Dennis, Charlie C, Bob, and Dave A with +1 tied the back. Dave A wins total at +4. Nice round Dave.

Only 1 out of 13 players increased his quota on this inexplicably difficult day:
Jeff K. +1 to 28

Four lost a quota point:
Bill H. -1 to 26
Charlie V. -1 to 26
Mike C. -1 to 30
Rich P. -1 to 20

Good scoring continues....and the rough keeps growing!!

12 Old Timers battled the elements yesterday, and there was plenty of obstacles to overcome. It was wet, it was windy, it was chilly, then it was warm. As Kelly Tillman (sp) once said on the golf channel...jacket on..jacket off..jacket on..jacket off!!it was that kind of day. Similar to Norm saying..Woody..it's a dog eat dog day..and i'm wearing Milk Bone underwear!! Enough levity..on to the facts mam.
Again more than half of the field was positive yesterday, given the conditions I say well done. Team charlie (j and c) along with "Some Asshole stole my driver" (mike c) won the front with a nice +8. FYI, yours truly managed 18 points on the front with only one par. The team of charlie v, dave a, and guess who found a new putter (dennis), won the back and total with +4, +8. Some asshole stole my driver wins the front at +4, and guess who found a new putter won the back and total +5, +8.

One last comment...can we ease up on cutting down all of our trees..please. Especially the ones that are strategic to the golf course.
Updated point totals and a few words of wisdom from the acting Commish..

Lots 'o good golf, but only three changes:
Dennis Harrison +1 to 21
Tim Morris +1 to 22
And ... spotlights on ... raise the curtain ...
Bob Coleman +1 to 36!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, Bob has increased his quota to even par.  Remarkable!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday activity as reported by the acting Commish

Seven Oldtimers showed up today.  We dodged the forecast  for rain and it was a beautiful day for golf.  Front 9 individual was split by Leroy and CJ with dazzling +4s.  There was only one positive score on the back, Bob with +1.  His 3-birdie/no bogey 68 earned him a split of the total with Leroy ... both at +4.

The team of:
Dister       0  -2   -2
Eggert    +4   0  +4
Johnson +4  -2  +2
Fortner   -1  -5   -6  won the front with +7.

The team of:
Coleman  +3  +1  +4
Harrison    0   -3   -3
Hall          +1  -2   -1  won the back with -4 and total at even.

JF drops 1 to 27 and DD drops 1 to 28.

Thirsty Thursday Results

A nice size group of Old Timers competed Thursday at the friendly confines of FCCC. The team of bob, bill, jeff k, and jim won the front with +3. It appears that bill with +4 carried the team, as he wins the front. Terry, mike, dennis, and charlie v win the back and total with +3, +5. Led by the strong play of Dennis, +3, +3, +6 who won the back and total.

Yesterday saw winter like conditions...

With my beanie and my heater on, I joined 9 other Old Timers as we did battle yesterday. We saw more wind, a little rain and very few other golfers as we tackled FCCC. Before I get into the results...please don't leave the first tee box without having the point totals for each player in your group, and turn in a completed scorecard with point totals and results for the day. It is not too much too ask.
Yesterday saw some brutal scoring, with the exception of Dave D, who had a stellar day shooting 71!! +3, +5, +8 was good for the back and total. Nicely done on a challenging day. Yours truly shot a little 33 on the front to win with +5.

dave d, charlies V nd J, along woth bill tied the front, and won the back and total. +1, +6, +7. Terry, dennis and charlie c managed a tie on the front.

News regarding a modification to the game was given to me from the golf committee...

Exciting new game additions
In order to add a little more interest in our old timers game "the committee" has decided, by unanimous vote, to add limited skin and closest to the pin competitions. This will add a maximum of $1.00 (American) to the bet and will be as follows;
Skins, 2 skins will be awarded, one scratch on one nine and one handicapped on the other nine. A drawing will take place before play to ascertain which holes. In case of no skin on that hole we will go backward (staying on the same nine) until a skin is awarded.
Closest to the pin, On Tuesday there will be a closest to the pin competition on # 5 and 11, On Thursday on #  7 and 14. Each competitor will be need a 25' tape measure to measure distance which will be written on scorecard.

IT'S MOTHERS DAY!!!

Before we get into yesterdays results..I am going to ramble on a little bit about Mothers and I'm not talking about car wax either. Without a Mother...there would be no Old Timer's Golf group...and we all know how much we love the game of golf. If your mother is still in your life..today would be the perfect day to pay her the respect and thanks that she is do. After all she raised your sorry asses..probably spanked that sorry ass, certainly wiped your sorry ass..and most likely kissed your sorry ass to make it feel better. So if you can..throw a little love her way today. If your mother is not still in your life..take a minute of time and remember some of the good times you had together.

OK..where was I.

Yesterday was another beautiful spring day. You know when Spring is officially here..because most of our conversations are about our lovely rough. It was brought to my attention yesterday that the rough was not that bad...One would have to say that is the most positive comment we can make regarding our rough. Caution...stay left of the cart path on 18!!!

Yesterday saw the continuous improvement in positive point totals...9 of 14 Old Timers were positive!! Well done to those 9. 3 out of 4 teams were positive on the front. Had it not been for TM, each team would have been positive. bob, mike, rich, and dennis won the front at +5. team charlie (j and c), along with leroy, won the back and total +4 and +8. Bill...welcome to the top of the Loserboard!! bob, dave d, and jeff k tied the front at +3. charlie c won the back and total with +5, +8. edging out bob, who again had a subpar round.

One last comment from the last row...Would you ever think that making the decision to move from the tips to the gold tees would generate so much conversation? Josh...I for one appreciate your making that decision and diverting attention away from the virus and giving us all something else to talk about. Next time, maybe the family tees???

Updated point totals and Old Timer of the week

Old Timer of the Week for his positive performance on both Tuesday and Thursday is Mike Clark. Competition was keen this week as positive scoring has returned on a more consistent basis, but Mike was the only Old Timer to score positively on both days. Bob had the single best day of the week, but was negative on Tuesday. Terry, Bob, and Dave D were positive for the week as well. It has been a while since Old Timer of the week has been announced, due to weather not allowing two days of play, and some pretty average scoring. Let's hope that positive scoring continues as we progress into 2020.

Updated Point totals....
Two players gain a point: MC to 32, DD to 28.  2 players lose a point: JE to 27, JK to 27.

SIETE DE MAYO

It seems that there might be a correlation between Margherita consumption and scoring. Most of us can attest to the fact that during the "stay at home" requirement, we also interpret that to mean to consume more alcohol while doing that. I know someone reading this is wondering what all this BS is about...it just so happens that the next golf day following cinco de mayo, 7 of the 13 Old Timer's were positive for their round. Coincidence....I think not. We haven't as a group played that well all year. Nicely done.
The American Family Team....bob, terry, and josh all went home in the Brinks truck. They swept the team game, +5,+3,+8. Bob also won the back and total with +4,+6. Nice playing today bob.
Rich won the front with +6, but returned to normal on the back.
Se you all Saturday.

THE GRASS IS GROWING EVERYWHERE..BUT THE GREENS??

Not only is the rough growing like crazy...yeah I know it's been raining, but not only was it difficult to find balls, but I lost my teammates on a couple of holes. Well, good news...I just sat here and watched one mower cutting on hole #12 for over two hours!!! And he's back on 12..disregard he is just driving around and not mowing.
Sorry that I got off of the subject...which is Old Timer Golf...Yesterday we had another good showing of Old Timers. Rich wasn't there, but I wanted to congratulate him and his brother for all of the success that they have had with their business. There was a really nice story about the closure of their business in one of the local newspapers. Nice story Rich.
As has been the typical result lately, scoring was again really difficult yesterday, with only one person being positive for the day. Every team was minus, minus, minus. It was really nice having the flag sticks back, and having a visual target to aim at. So much for the excuse "is that where the hole is?, i thought it was back left?"
bob, bill, jim, mike, charlie c and v,dennis and josh tied for the front at -6. terry, dave a and d, and charlie j win the back and total, -1, -9.
Mike wins the front +3 and total+1, with Terry winning the back at +3.
I for one, look forward to winning greenies again, at least having the opportunity to do so.

The Average of The Old Timer's Keeps Falling...

Yesterday brought two new additions to our illustrious group of aging golfers. Tommy A and our new golf professional Mike P drastically reduced our average age. Don't you all feel younger? A good number of us played yesterday on a beautiful, but summer like day.  Bob, Josh, and Jeff K, won the front and total with +4 and +3. Terry, Jim and Tommy won the back at even.
Individual honors go to Bob and Tim, +3. Tim wins the back and total with +3 +6.

Please make sure and read the below info as provided by our acting commish regarding a refresher on some of our rules of play.

A quick rules refresher for all our new members.

All flower beds are a free drop.

Any ball seen to go in rough and not found:  drop a ball as close as possible to where you think it should be and add a stroke.  This does not apply to balls in creeks, lakes or out of bounds.  (This rule may change if the rough is ever cut to a length facilitating the finding of a ball.)

Players 49 and younger can choose a tee (or combination of tees; Black, Blue, Blue/Black, and play from there.  Once you've chosen your tee or combination, stick with it.  You can play the ball down or up as you choose ... just do the same thing all the time.

Players from 50 to 69 can add the White tees to the equation.  Play all White, Blue/White, whatever ... just do it all the time.

Players 70 to 74 can play Gold tees with the exception of the par 3s.  You must play White tees on all par 3s.

When you're 75, you can play Gold par 3s as well.

When you're 80, you can move to all Reds.

85 and older can play Family Tees on all holes but par 3s.  You must play Red tees on par 3s.  And God Bless You for playing.

All balls inside the leather  are gimmes.  Put your putter head in the cup and if any part of the ball is inside the leather, it's considered good.  If not, putt it.

The woods on the right side of 13 are to be played as a lateral hazard (2 club lengths from where the ball went in ... add one stroke.)  If anyone feels strongly about applying the same rule to the woods to the right of 2, let's hear about it.

Sand traps are rake and place until further notice.

Please, do what you can to stay in touch with the group in front of you.
TM and BC go up 1. RC, LE, TA and MP drop 1.
