NEWS FLASH!! READ ALL ABOUT IT.

Below is an immediate modification regarding Payouts in our weekly Old Timer game.

Many of our Oldtimers have stated that our Quota Game is the fairest game at the club.  If you play to your abilities ... or a little bit better ... you have an opportunity to win.

Well, that's very true ... but ... our blogger has spent a great deal of time analyzing data and he has made some discoveries that need to be addressed.

The way the payoffs are presently made, our blogger has discovered that there's an inordinate amount of luck involved in an otherwise great game.  In other words, it's more about who you draw than how you play.

We are never going to eliminate "Luck of the Draw" as a huge factor in our game.  But, we can reward those who play well by adding more individual places and decreasing the total emphasis we currently have on the team aspect of the game.

Too many times, Oldtimers who have had plus-3, 4 and 5 nines have gone home with nothing, while others who are minus-3 or 2 have drawn a great team and rewarded for sub-par play.  That will still happen, but not to the extent it happens currently.

Our Commish has blessed a new payout system for a September trial run.  The chart indicates four, simple groupings.  Number of players ... team payout for front, back and total ... individual payout for first, second and third places for front, back and total ... and total money to be distributed.  The entry fee won't change.  It's still $3.

We believe this simple change will make a great game, better.  We're looking forward to your opinion.

# of Players          Team $       Individual $                            Total $

8                           3-3-3           3-3-3   2-2-2                             24

9                           3-3-3           3-3-3   2-2-2   1-1-1                  27

10                         4-4-4           3-3-3   2-2-2   1-1-1                  30

11                         5-5-5           3-3-3   2-2-2   1-1-1                  33

12                         5-5-5           4-4-4   2-2-2   1-1-1                  36

13                         5-5-5           4-4-4   3-3-3   1-1-1                  39

14                         5-5-5           4-4-4   3-3-3   2-2-2                  42

15                         6-6-6           4-4-4   3-3-3   2-2-2                  45

16                         6-6-6           5-5-5   3-3-3   2-2-2                  48

17                         6-6-6           5-5-5   4-4-4   2-2-2                  51

18                         6-6-6           5-5-5   4-4-4   3-3-3                  54

19                         6-6-6           6-6-6   4-4-4   3-3-3                  57

20                         6-6-6           6-6-6   5-5-5   3-3-3                  60

21                         6-6-6           6-6-6   5-5-5   4-4-4                  63

It is my opinion and mine only that whenever fewer than eight show up..the payout is for individual performance only, without a team game.

Saturday..Those That Were Good Were Really Good...Those Bad????

Some excellent scoring continued Saturday by Old Timer Utes!! The youngster team of Jeff K, Ryan C, and Jim E swept the team game handedly with scores of +4, +6, +10. Well played kiddos.

Jim and Terry win the front at +4. Jeff K wins the back and total with +4, +6.

Old Timer of The Week Award goes to Rich P as he solidly toured the rugged confines of FCCC. Rich had rounds of +6, +1, +7, +3, +1, +4, for a very good week. Bill H had an excellent week going until the back nine on Saturday, which removed him from consideration. Effective immediately, yours truly no longer has his name on a parking space at the club. Congrats again to Leroy, who now has the spot. So going forward...recognition from your peers is all you receive with this award. (Unless Super Sr Champ..Charlie J wants to volunteer his new spot to the weekly holder of the award???)

Derek Alferman -1 to 30. Charlie Curtis +1 to 33.  Jeff Kavanaugh +1 to 28.  Jim Eichelberger +1 to 28.

Old Timers Light It Up

10 Old Timers arrived on a hot and humid day to play a little golf and boy did they. All 10 players were positive for the day. A remarkable achievement considering the surfaces that we putt on are getting more difficult to navigate every day. According to an inside source...our problems might not be that difficult or expensive to overcome. More  to come as the official word is released. On to yesterdays excellent play...Terry, Bill, and Leroy, our final group of the day turned in their scorecard with big smiles on their faces only to find out that +7, +2, +9 was only good for a tie on the front. Our first group, who will remain nameless shot +6 on the front. Quite the competitive front 8. The foursome of Ray, the Commish (Dave L), Rich, and Charlie J. had a terrific day with +7, +6, +13 to tie the front and win the back and total.

Individual victories also came from this team as Rich +6, +1, +7 wins the front and Ray with +4 wins the back. Again excellent play by everyone yesterday.

Rich Purschke +1 to 26.  Bill Hall +1 to 29.  Ray Sharma +1 to 33.  Dave Dister -1 to 29.

Time Flies

20 years ago I took this picture during the practice round for the 100th US Open at Pebble Beach. Please send me any pictures that you would like to share with your fellow Old Timers. PS..some of our wives read the blog.
